Over a hundred years ago, pioneers established telegraph stations throughout the northern territory in Australia. 36,000 telegraph poles were strung with telegraph wire to bring communication to the remote area. The station master and his family were self sufficient living in the remote areas. Alice Springs name comes from the wife of a station master and the mistaken idea that the Todd River was a spring.
