Cairns is near a world heritage site rainforest. A unique experience was riding the Skyrail cable car (over an hour ride) over the rainforest with some stops for up close looks at the vegetation and waterfalls. The car ends in the village of Kuranda - once home to the aboriginal people and early settlers. The Kuranda Scenic Railway was a slow and scenic way back down to Cairns through tunnels, gorges, and waterfalls.
