The Sydney Harbour bridge is a well known sight. I had a wonderful 3 and 1/2 hour experience climbing the bridge. It is a popular attraction in Sydney and much easier than you might expect. The pace was leisurely and the climb was fairly easy. Every climber is suited up in a jumpsuit, a safety belt that attaches you to a cable as you climb, and a radio and headset to hear the leader talk about the incredible sights. It was rather cold and windy at the top of the bridge, so we also had wind pants over the jumpsuit, a fleece jacket, stocking cap and gloves. Sunglasses and all of the items are attached to your jumpsuit to prevent anything from dropping to the ground. Before going on the bridge everyone is given a breathalyzer test and watches and dangling jewelry must be removed. Everyone goes through a metal detector before beginning the climb. My climb began at 2:40 and ended about 6:00. I was able to see sunset from the top of the bridge and the beginning of the evening lights as we ended the climb. It was a great experience. Since we could not bring cameras along, a group photo was taken at the top of the bridge. If you look at the pictures of the bridge (taken during the harbour cruise the next day) you will see people climbing the bridge. You can visit www.bridgeclimb.com to see more information. The views of Sydney Harbour were breathtaking.
